Tantra in Colorado: A Guide to Denver, Boulder and the Front Range

Colorado has more of this work than most places its size.
Boulder in particular has been a center for contemplative practice for decades, and the Front Range has absorbed a steady flow of meditation, somatics and bodywork alongside it. If you're looking for tantra here, the problem isn't scarcity. It's that the options look similar from the outside and cost you very different things.
This is a map of the formats, what each one is actually for, and how to choose between them.
The formats, and what each is for
Introductory workshops
A day or two, group setting, usually twenty to forty people.
Best for finding out whether this resonates before committing anything significant. You get exposure to the practices, you meet people doing the same work, and you leave with a reasonable sense of whether you want more.
What they can't do is go deep on anything specific to you. Group settings move at the pace of the room.
Our Deeper Tantra Level 1 is a two-day workshop working from classical Kashmir Shaivism alongside modern embodiment. It's the usual entry point for people who want the tradition rather than a generic wellness weekend.
Multi-day retreats
Three to five days, residential, small group.
Retreats do something the other formats structurally can't: they take you out of your life long enough for your nervous system to actually downshift. Most people spend the first day and a half decompressing before anything else becomes available. That's not wasted time, it's the prerequisite, and it's exactly why a weekly class doesn't produce the same result.
The cost is real, in money and in time away.
Our Embodying Essence Retreat works through meditation, breathwork and movement.
Couples work
Some of this work only makes sense with your partner in the room.
If the thing you want to change is a pattern that lives between two people, doing it alone gives you insight into a dynamic you then have to renegotiate with someone who wasn't there. Sometimes that's fine. Often it stalls.
Our Couples Immersion is three days, built for partners who want to work on intimacy, communication and connection together rather than in parallel.
Ongoing groups
Weekly or monthly, same people over time.
Groups do something intensives can't: they let change happen slowly enough to stick, with witnesses who notice when you drift. Less dramatic, more durable.
We run RECHARGED, a weekly gathering for women looking for community and nourishment rather than another intensive.
Online courses
Live online, multi-week, from anywhere.
The right choice if you're outside Colorado, if scheduling makes in-person impractical, or if you want structured learning without the intensity of a room full of strangers.
Intro to Tantra is a four-week live online course covering where people actually get stuck, the tools that work, and the traps on the path.
Private sessions
One to one, ninety minutes, fully clothed.
Private work is the highest-leverage format and the most expensive per hour. It's worth it when you have something specific that group work keeps skating past: a pattern that only shows up under particular conditions, a trauma history that needs a slower pace than a room allows, or a plateau you've been sitting on for years.
Most people who come to us for private sessions have already done substantial work elsewhere and hit a wall that more information won't move.
Choosing between them
A few honest heuristics.
If you're curious but unsure, start with a workshop or a free masterclass. Don't book a retreat to find out whether you like this.
If you're stuck rather than curious, go private. Group formats are excellent for exposure and poor for specificity, and if you've been circling the same issue for years, more exposure isn't the missing ingredient.
If the problem is your relationship, do couples work. Individual work on a relational pattern has a low completion rate.
If you have a significant trauma history, private first, group later. You want a pace you control and a practitioner tracking only you.
If you're outside Colorado, take the online course rather than flying in for a workshop. Save the travel for a retreat, where the immersion actually justifies it.
Boulder and Denver specifically
We're based in Boulder and work across Denver and the Front Range. In practice that means Boulder for most in-person sessions, Denver for events and workshops, and online for anyone further out.
Colorado's advantage for this work is geographic as much as cultural. Retreat settings within an hour of either city put you somewhere quiet, high, and genuinely away, which matters more than it sounds like it should.
Our current events and workshops are listed with dates as they're scheduled.
What to do next
If you want to test the water at no cost, Ben runs free live masterclasses. The current one, Building Castles, maps how tantra split into two traditions and what survived on each side.
If you know you want to work directly, the discovery call is free and thirty minutes, and it's as much about us working out whether we're right for you as the reverse.
And if you're still deciding whether any of this is for you, what actually happens in a private session answers the questions most people don't want to ask out loud.
Ben and Larinda are the founders of Authentic Essence, teaching tantra, embodiment and relationship work in Boulder and Denver, Colorado, and internationally.
